      Summary of Discussion

      ● Introductions & Staff Update

      ○ Mrs. Liekweg thanked PA on behalf of teachers for welcome back brunch

      ○ Starting Monday, Sept 23rd, breakfast will be available for all students.

      ○ Request from Mrs. M to move flyers to electronic format.

      ○ Pierce Burnham completed his Eagle Scout project and now there are two new

      sandboxes for preschool. [keep to a small group so school isn’t overloaded, if

      there are Little Tikes things you want to offload, can drop off]. $500 excess

      fundraising went to a new Little Tikes plaything for preschool

      ○ At 406 kids, 76 staff. “We’ve outgrown all our shared spaces” Room for 300

      seated currently

      ○ PA events will be added to the school website calendar

      ○ Enrichments - plan to add Mary and Custodian (Anthony) to planning emails

      ○ School Council will be looking for a parent volunteer

      ○ MCAS scores will be released 9/23 on website

      ○ Request for piano for Ms. Comeau via Music Boosters - Jenn getting more

      ○ Teacher/Parent collab to close the gap

      ■ In light of cuts made with no budget override, is it helpful to ask for

      volunteers to help with gaps?

      ■ Mrs. Liekweg to get feedback from teachers on their thoughts and needs

      and let them know they can come to PA with bigger asks

      ○ Trying to get choices earlier in year to be able to project costs

      ○ Yoga Day - enrichment planned to date

      ■ Has to be in gym - suggest 3 separate sessions

      ■ $3k in apparel sales so far - not sure on profit yet given profit margin

      increases with volume discounts

      ○ Fun Run will hopefully raise money to cover operating expenses ($25K) and

      other fundraisers are slush funds for spend.

      ■ Operating expenses cover field trips, teacher appreciation, taxes,

      stipends, scholarship, etc.

    • Introductions & Staff Update

      • 9/18/2024 minutes motioned to be approved by Timmery Fitzpatrick and second by Jen Cavanaugh

      • Dr. McKay is working on the Oct newsletter, SPARK assembly, working with students to get student input and a voice in school rules

      • Accountability scores came out on Sept 24.  Scores were what Dr. McKay expected.  95% percentile.  Even with the current absentee rate. A happy score :) 


    • Housekeeping & Updates from Co-Presidents

      • Music Fundraiser - Dr. McKay will handle this with Mrs. Comeau

      • Fun Run Charter Ideas - this has always the one big fundraiser independent of the playground

        • Fundraising proceeds fund events - field trips & enrichment

        • ? of Flyer to be made - where does your money go?

      • 3rd grade field trip - Mrs. M asking for cost for bus to nursing home

        • PA gives $300 to each grade for field trips.  Batch allocates per pupil  Under consideration: should there be separate funds for music (Ms. Comeau), etc field trips vs. classroom teacher selected field trips.

          • Treat bags will be provided (no food - trunks will give out little treats, etc)

          • Will have a vote for different categories for the trunks

        • Will be held at the Moose

        • Music Bingo.  

        • 7pm-11pm; Bingo will start at 8.

        • Will have a few auctions - live auction of the street sign and some silent auction items (sports registration fees)

      • Ivy the Dog Enrichment 

        • Friday 10/18 8:45am - Pre-K through 3rd grade

        • Books can still be purchased after the event

      • Yoga enrichment will be scheduled for Nov

        • Including morning pre-K too.

        • 11/15; 3 sessions in the gym

        • ? teacher volunteers to sign up for slot that works for them

      • Bike Stunt Enrichment

        • Looking for a good time of year to schedule (after holidays)

        • Good for older kids

        • Pricey - trying to figure out other enrichments to see how much left to fund this

    • Profit margin is much higher than last year.  (Last year sales = ~$8k / profit = $1800)

      • Will remove Hood specific items and items with small number (<5) of orders 

      • Can open within a couple days

    7:00PM Board Meeting Called to Order

    President/Vice President – Jenn Burnham and Mariann Arena

    Budget: Boosterthon was paid; Kimball Farm deposit was made for 5 th grade; need to confirm

    date with 5 th grade committee

    Playground Update: Turf is in; swings are scheduled for April; Wishlist items are an additional

    $15,000 for equipment + $10,000 for benches and tables; Holding off on bricks until next year

    so we don’t exhaust parents with fundraising asks

    Social/Hospitality – Erin Carlson and Jen Cavanaugh

    Half-day conference teacher lunch from Kouzina – very well received

    Holiday coffee/cocoa cart was enjoyed by the teachers

    Working on upcoming free family events; might take winter off; Rob Surrette scheduled in May,

    and possible playground event in June to celebrate its completion

    PNO tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 23 with auction items available

    Sweetheart Slush on February 14 – classroom schedule TBD

    1 st Grade Discovery Museum scheduled for January 26

    Motion by Erin Carlson to approve September meeting minutes, unanimous approval.

    Staff Update:

    11/16 STEAM Night – committee has a $316.76 ask for supplies. No objections, Tommy will cut a check. Suggestion for there to be less stations or revisit punch card system to not overwhelm kids in the 45 minutes.

    There has been a volunteer (Vanessa Adams) for the open position on school council.

    Logan (school therapy dog is back).

    Schoolwide responsibility meeting with students went well today / 2nd fire drill today.

    Overall, off to a good start.

    Playground Update:

    Jim Cavalieri has donated lots of time and equipment to get the playground ready for install. The playground structure is supposed to be delivered next week with Installation set to take place 11/6-11/9.

    Working on business donations, comms will start with thank you posts. Template email to send for solicitations is being put together.

    Fun Run Update:

    Prep is underway and prize levels are being decided/prizes ordered – working on how to hand those out. SUG coming out soon to recruit volunteers.

    Woking on swag and refreshment possibilities. Staff call next week to refresh everyone.

    Thank you sponsor signage for the playground will be displayed at the Fun Run.

    $5,321 outflow / $3,971 inflow (includes $933 profit from pizza/ice cream social)

    77 tickets sold (140 total available). Working on auction items (live & silent)

    Boo Bash:

    Free event with activity stations.

    Snacks donated by Hood School families via SUG.

    15 high school student volunteers to run stations.

    Halloween music playlist has been put together.

    Enrichment:

    Rob Surette’s Amazing Hero Art is booked for 5/31 @ NRHS PAC in the evening.

    A meteorologist Is being booked for a whole school event.

    Survey has been sent to classroom teachers to gauge their interests.

    Some version of the Ultimate Game Show will happen in June for the entire school.

    Fundraising:

    Spirit Sale brought in $614 in commissions with 2 days left to go.

    Pie Sales have brought in $600 in commissions thus far (online sales only have been recorded). 11/21 distribution.

    Holiday Shop is being worked on; Alisha &amp; Rachel will consult with Jill Libby.

    Communications:

    Feedback on comms efforts have been super positive.

    Website views were 987 last year and are already at 692 ytd.

    Newsletter will go out on the 1st or 2nd school day each month.

    Delivery of new playground is mid October

    No playground for a couple of weeks - ground needs to settle before new playground goes in

    Idea is to have kids sign one piece of old playgournd and keep it
