Parent Association Board Elections and Role Details

PA Board Elections for the following school year are held in the Spring of each current school year, typically in June, at the last PA meeting. Elections are held in person, by ballot. All roles are volunteer roles, with a commitment of 1-year, for the school year.

Board Roles

President/Co-President (2024 - 2025:  Jenn Burnham/Mariann Arena)

The president/co-presidents are the principal executive officers of the Association and supervise and control all of the business and affairs for the Association in accordance with the policies of the Executive Board.  They lead meetings of the members and of the Executive Board.

Secretary (2024-2025: Stephanie Palmer & Kristen Gill)

The secretary/co-secretaries keeps the minutes of the meetings of the members and of the Executive Board.  The secretary maintains a calendar and a roster of all current members, together with their addresses and email addresses and manages correspondence. 

Social/Hospitality (2024-2025: Erin Carlson & Jen Cavanaugh)

The social/hospitality director/co-directors will be responsible for all Association social functions.  These functions can include events like:  Welcome Back Pizza Social, Teacher Appreciation Week, Halloween Celebration (Boo Bash), and Parent Socials.  They may solicit volunteers and form committees as necessary.  The directors also support the associations’ information table and open houses, conference and other special events at the school. They will function as a liaison between the association and the staff at J. Turner Hood School to improve communications between the association and the staff. 

Treasurer (2024-2025:  Tommy Fiorentino)

The treasurer is responsible for all funds of the Association.  They manage deposits, withdrawals, and reimbursements for all Association financial transactions. They keep a record of receipts and expenditures of the Association and report in detail at each meeting on the financial condition of the Association. 

Communications/Publicity/Technology (2024-2025:  Steph Alimonti, Jessica Roden & Stephanie Reynolds)

The communications/publicity director/co-directors prepare the monthly school newsletter and announcements/reminder notices.  They help with publicity on classroom events and enrichment programs, including social media and email communications to parents.  They will also be responsible for working with the technology director to add events and information to the association’s website.

Enrichment (2024-2025: Timmery Fitzpatrick, Stephanie DiPerna & Shuchi Verma )

The enrichment director/co-directors are responsible for investigating and scheduling enrichment programs that coordinate with the school curriculum.  During performance, they, or a designated representative, will act as liaison(s) with the school staff and will take photographs of the enrichment programs for possible use in future Association distributions/notices. 

Fundraising (2024-2025 Alisha Johnson & Rachel Cheng)

The fundraising director/co-directors will oversee the fundraising efforts of the PA with a goal of raising enough funds to meet the proposed budget.  They will spearhead efforts to solicit donations for various fundraising events.  They will coordinate board-approved fundraising campaigns throughout the year which may include by are not limited to:  Start-up Fund, apparel sales, Box Tops for Education, Square1 Art, and any other fundraisers deemed appropriate by the board.  They will work with the Communications Director to ensure ongoing campaigns are advertised and they will work with the Treasurer to ensure that all donations are tracked properly in accordance with IRS guidelines.  They may form committees or solicit volunteers as necessary.
